The newly-crowned UFC Welterweight Champion Belal Muhammad wants to team up with WWE wrestler CM Punk after the latter gave a shout on Monday Night Raw.
After suffering a defeat at the hands of Drew McInyre, ‘The Second City Savior’ cut a promo on Raw and gave a shout out to his friend, Belal Muhammad.
Belal Muhammad wants to tag team with CM Punk
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Muhammad responded to Punk’s praise and opened up on his friendship with him. The UFC Champion also revealed that he was supposed to be at SummerSlam but couldn’t make it due to a scheduled fight. He then expressed his desire to join forces with Punk in a tag team.
“That’s my brother (Muhammad said about CM Punk). We used to train together in Roufusport Milwaukee. He’s a good friend, he’s from Chicago, and any time we’re together, we’ll hit the stairs together or something and get a good workout in. He’s truly a genuine, good person. Seeing him give me that shoutout on Raw, that was epic. He’s always wanted to see me succeed. I used to love Raw and I loved watching Punk. Then I got to know him, and he’s such a down-to-earth, good dude. He’s a friend and a brother.
I want to be a tag team with Punk. I was supposed to go to SummerSlam, but I went to Abu Dhabi for the UFC fight. I knew Punk was making his comeback and I wanted to see it, and then I saw Jelly Roll in the ring, and I was thinking, hey, that could have been me!”
Belal Muhammad trains as part of the Roufusport MMA team headed by coach Duke Roufus. Several UFC champions such as Anthony Pettis and Tryon Woodley have emerged from the gym. Punk and Muhammad, both hailing from Chicago, Illinois trained together during Punk’s training period with the Roufusport MMA team.
Muhammad recently won the UFC Welterweight Championship at UFC 304 after defeating Leon Edwards in round five via unanimous decision.
