British author JK Rowling and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, two of the most recognizable figures of all time, have been slapped with a cyberbullying lawsuit, filed by Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who recently clinched gold at the Paris Olympics following the gender eligibility row that made headlines during her Olympics run. And now, the names of influencer-cum-pro wrestler Logan Paul and former US President Donald Trump could also get tangled in the investigation.
Imane Khelif’s attorney mentions Logan Paul & Donald Trump as potential investigation targets
Nabil Boudi, the attorney for Khelif, informed Variety this Wednesday that they have filed a criminal complaint over “acts of cyber-harassment” including Rowling and Musk’s names., posted to the Paris public prosecutor’s office on Friday. The prosecutor office further confirmed Variety about the complaint, and that an investigation has been launched. The lawsuit has been filed against ‘X’, which denotes it was filed against ‘unknown persons’ under French law.
“On Aug. 13, (The National Center for the Fight Against Online Hatred) contacted the OCLCH (Central Office for the Fight Against Crimes Against Humanity and Hate Crimes) to conduct an investigation into the counts of cyber harassment due to gender, public insult because of gender, public incitement to discrimination and public insult because of origin,” read a statement from Paris Prosecutor’s Office to Variety.
While Rowling and Musk’s names are already in the lawsuit, Boudi added that Trump would also be part of the investigation regarding his tweet about the gender eligibility situation. “J. K. Rowling and Elon Musk are named in the lawsuit, among others. Trump tweeted, so whether or not he is named in our lawsuit, he will inevitably be looked into as part of the prosecution.”
Logan, who had deleted his tweet about the Khelif situation and admitted to have spread misinformation, was also mentioned by Boudi. The attorney emphasised that any such apology would have no effect on the process of the investigation – “the lawsuit is filed and the facts remain.”
