The medical issue comes as rival Tommy Browne criticized the Aussie boxing bad boy and suggested he had crossed the line by bringing up his divorce during a No Limit promotional video. Fox Sports Australia reported Zerafa’s return to the Australian boxing scene and it had remained up in the air over a drama about a fighter’s medical clearance.

Michael Zerafa opens up on his situation

When asked by Fox Sports Australia to explain the bloodwork situation, Michael Zerafa said:

“You guys will do anything you can to run a story on me. Main Event need me to sell Pay-Per-Views, I guess. I’m the Australian boxing Deadpool.”

He added:

“But my bloods are all good, No Limit are just waiting for an email. But officially, I got everything done months ago …”

As of Tuesday’s weigh-ins, Michael Zerafa had not been cleared by the NSW Combat Authority for his showdown against Tommy Browne. The bout is supposed to serve as the co-main to Nikita Tszyu’s latest Pay-Per-View headliner against Koen Mazoudier at the ICC Theatre, Sydney.

On Monday afternoon, the NSW Combat Authority informed Zerafa that he hadn’t completed the relevant medical testing to be cleared to fight. This includes being signed off by a doctor and having his bloodwork done.

It is understood the misunderstanding came about because Zerafa’s last fight was in the US, where he was stopped by WBA champ Erislandy Lara in March. He is deemed an international fighter and must be cleared before 10am on fight day.

As soon as he was made aware of the issue on Monday, Zerafa went and got the relevant testing and had his bloodwork done. However, the results of that are haven’t been returned.
