Teofimo Lopez Jr, the reigning WBO junior welterweight champion, has some big endeavours planned up ahead, which includes not one, but two title fights in two different weight classes.
“The Takeover”, who is currently on a five fight win streak, was recently on the news for turning down a September 27 clash against WBO welterweight titleholder Brian Norman Jr at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. Turning down a title fight surely raised some eyebrows, but for Lopez’s part, the former unified lightweight champion has his mind set on grander targets.
Teofimo Lopez ready to fight Crawford as well as Ennis
Speaking to Boxingscene.com, Lopez revealed that he is aiming for Terence Crawford, the former undisputed welterweight champion who recently clinched the WBA light middleweight title against Israil Madrimov on 3rd August.
“Now that we have Riyadh Season in the mix, why can’t we make a Crawford and Teofimo fight happen? We’re in the house now. Make it happen. More money doesn’t cause more problems. More money causes more boxing,” said Lopez, while also insisting that he’s ready to make the jump to 15 to lock horns with “Bud”.
“Absolutely I can [move up to 154 pounds]. And I will. Just send me the date. I am walking at 155 pounds right now. I can fight Crawford right now.
Making the jump up to 154 would require Lopez to pass the hurdle of 147 first- for which the 27-year-old has set his sights on IBF champion Jaron Ennis, nicknamed “Boots”.
“To be honest, whatever plans they have. I have nothing but respect for Boots,” Lopez went on. “We’ve known each other a long time. We won the National Golden Gloves together in 2015. We were both 17 years old. If people want to see it, then we’ll do it. I don’t say no to any fight. As long as it’s eye-catching and eye candy to everyone who’s watching, that’s what really matters.”
